Our History

First Baptist Church was started in 1955 as a Southern Baptist mission to this community and was called Lancaster Chapel. The church constituted as Lancaster Baptist Church, and then became Hubert Avenue Baptist Church (based on the location its first property location). Missions and church planting were a part of the First Baptist DNA from the beginning, sponsoring new churches in Heath, Logan, and Circleville. In 1975, the church purchased property at our current Pleasantville Road location and changed the name to First Baptist Church of Lancaster. Relocation occurred in March 1978, with the old property begin conveyed to the Salvation Army.

Much has happened at First Baptist over the years, but we have not lost our commitment to the foundation of God’s word (The Bible) and our calling to help people have a genuine faith relationship with God through His son, Jesus Christ. We remain a multi-generational community of believers that strives to effectively engage our entire community. We are committed to making, maturing, and mobilizing disciples, (believers who follow Jesus Christ), who can then invest in the lives of others. And we are called to make an impact on the world…beginning right here in Lancaster, but reaching to the ends of the planet. We welcome those seeking to find meaning in life, as well as those striving to find fulfillment through following Christ with passion and purpose.

What should I wear?

The environment we strive for at First Baptist is one that fosters relationship and not religion. The congregation is rather diverse, so you will find people dressed both casually and more formally. So come in your suit or your jeans. You will most likely find someone dressed like you. Most everyone enjoys making a new friend and hanging out in the gathering room for a cup of coffee.

Where should I park?

When you turn off Pleasantville Road, you enter one main lot. On the northeast side of the building, you will find ‘GUEST PARKING’ which is right in front of the main entrance. There is also parking up front near the building entrance for handicapped individuals and senior adults. Additional parking on the North and West sides as well. There are greeters near the front door to help with directions, children's security check-in, etc. We want help make your experience as positive as possible and any transitions with children as convenient as we can.
